Privacy policy

This is a content site, not a data business. Here is everything that gets collected and why.

Last updated August 2026

This policy explains how ExploreActivities (“we”) handles personal data on exploreactivities.com. Review it before using the site; continuing to use it means you accept what is described here.

What we collect

If you join the newsletter

We store the email address you submit, plus the date you submitted it. That is used only to send the weekly shortlist and is never sold, rented or shared for marketing. Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list.

If you just read pages

Our hosting provider records standard server logs — IP address, user agent, the page requested and a timestamp — which are used for security and to keep the site up. We also record which outbound links get clicked, so we can tell which recommendations are useful. That click record is not tied to your identity.

Cookies

On first visit we ask whether we may store preference cookies. Essential cookies only keep the site working. Preference cookies remember your currency, language and, if you also allow it, a location flag so nearby destinations can be sorted. We do not set advertising cookies. You can choose “Essential only” and still use the site.

Location

Location is optional. If you allow it, the browser asks for a one-off position so we can rank destinations by distance. Coordinates are stored only on your device (if you accepted preference cookies) and are not sent to our servers. You can refuse, or allow later from the pin control in the menu.

What happens when you click a booking link

Booking links on this site pass through /go/… on our domain and then redirect to a partner platform such as Viator or GetYourGuide. Two things happen:

  • We log the click — which activity, which partner, which country — with no personal identifiers.
  • The partner sets its own affiliate cookie so any resulting booking is attributed to us. That cookie is controlled by the partner, under the partner’s privacy policy, not ours. Once you are on their site you are subject to their terms.

See the affiliate disclosure for the commercial side of this.

Third parties who process data for us

  • Hosting and CDN — serves the site and keeps server logs.
  • Email provider — stores the newsletter list and sends the emails.
  • Affiliate partners — attribute bookings, as described above.

How long we keep things

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs and click records are kept for a rolling period of up to 12 months, then discarded.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under the UK GDPR, EU GDPR and CCPA — you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@exploreactivities.com and we will action it within 30 days. There is no charge and we will not make it difficult.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has submitted an email address, tell us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Questions about any of it: hello@exploreactivities.com, or start in the Help Center. How ratings are sourced is in the customer review policy.
